Our TAFE Preparation Program
Albany Tutoring is excited about this program in which we will teach young people practical literacy and numeracy to prepare for further study at TAFE or an apprenticeship. The course will cover:
The course runs for ten weeks in the school term. There are ten, one-hour sessions. The content is below
Week 1 to 3 Measurement and Calculation
- Using measuring tools.
- Using formulas for area, perimeter and design.
- Estimating weight loads.
- Working with quantities.
Week 4 to 6 Money Maths
- Calculating increases and decreases.
- Invoicing for services.
- Calculating costs of materials.
- General ledgers.
- Costs of business.
Week 7 to 10: Scheduling, Budgeting and Accounting
- GANNT charts, timetabling, project management of small jobs.
- Estimates.
Section 4: Data Analysis
- Calculating tolerances.
- Using numbers in patterns.
The program was produced by the Canadian Government. It is an intensive means to support people transitioning to becoming a tradie through vocational education or an apprenticeship. The course provides well scaffolded learning materials to practice literacy and numeracy while teaching them skills that may use as in TAFE courses or apprenticeships.
Darren Moffat will teach the course. He is an educator with nearly a decade’s experience teaching at Albany High Schools, previously he was a Machinist working in light and medium industry in South Australia. He’s excited to be delivering this highly practical course and sharing his experiences in the industry.
